Safety Information
Tyres are a crucial part of a vehicle’s safety, and their condition and performance should not be taken for granted. They should be checked at least once every two weeks to ensure pressure is correct, and confirm there is no damage to the sidewalls or tread.
Driving with poorly inflated tyres is potentially extremely dangerous – they will affect how the vehicle steers, brakes and handles. It is imperative therefore that tyres are checked on a regular basis, and replaced where necessary, as this will help to prevent harm to yourself and other road users.
The government has put in place a minimum legal tread depth requirement of 1.6mm, and failure to adhere to this can result in a fine of up to £2500 for each defective tyre. The guilty party will also receive three penalty points on their license per tyre.
Tyre Tread
The deeper the tread of a tyre, the more grip they give on the road, particularly in hazardous conditions. It’s common sense then to replace tyres with minimal tread; for legal reasons and for safety purposes.
